Back from my travels!
Well, as you all know, time flies by too fast! Since my last post in April 06 I have returned from my condo shopping trip in Florida with Maxine in tow! She finished her first year at College of Charleston in early May and we drove back home to CT together. But she returned to Charleston shortly after to work for the Political Science Chairman as a Nanny for the summer. In betweeen, she fit in a short vacation and returned home to go camping with friends at Lake George and sail to Block Island with Alan and me for a week. Our week together at Block was idyllic and very restful. At the end of her vacation break we drove together BACK! to Charleston so she could finish out her summer job.
Maxine is starting her second year at College of Charleston and just declared a double major in Political Science and French! She is having a fabulous time and, in addition to making Concert Choir this year, continues as secretary of Sigma Delta Tau, her sorority as well as serving as a board member for the JSU (Jewish Student Union). She has made such wonderful friends at school and really loves Charleston life!
After returning Maxine to Charleston, I continued down to Gainesville, FL to assist Jenn with a recent move into a new apt. In the end we decided not to invest in a condo at present and instead rented her a really great 2 BR Townhouse in a gorgeous place called Cobblestone. Given the current housing atmosphere I don't feel too badly we decided not to buy at the current time. Prices in Gainesville had appreciated steeply during the previous year and a half and just ended up being to pricey a market for my blood!
Jenn is starting her second year at the Univ of Florida Vet school. She spent the summer doing research on neonatal foals. In addition, she was elected the president of the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Association (SCAVMA) and attended several conferences this summer, one being in Hawaii!! That was a lot of fun for her!
After getting Jenn settled in Alan flew down to FL to join us for a few days before driving with me BACK to Charleston to move Maxine from her summer apt to her present dorm. We then proceded home driving up the east coast, but going by way of Route 81 instead of 95, a much less stressful and more beautiful way to go. We will be hard pressed to make that drive again using Rte 95 - although the alternate route is slightly longer, it is so much more pleasant.
Now Fall is under way, the kids are settled and life seems to be returning to a more normal pace. We are headed to Greenport, LI this weekend for our last summer sailing "hurrah" and, unless, we get hit with "Ernesto" we should enjoy this tremendously.
All for now! Hopefully, my posts will not be so infrequent.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN!
Well, Maxine and I hit the road again yesterday to return her to Charleston to finish out her job this summer working as a nanny for the chairman of the Political Science dept at College of Charleston. Maxine came home for a vacation break from her summer job three weeks ago. She had a great visit and managed to fit in a camping trip to Lake George with her friends as well as a one week sailing trip to Block Island with us. Despite a few readjustment bumps encountered we have had a wonderful time having her home. Now she will get back to her job and start school in 3 weeks! Hard to believe!
Yesterday we intended on exploring the Amish countryside, but due to a slight delay from auto repairs, we never quite made it. However, we did manage to finally get to Lancaster and had dinner there last night. What a fabulous town! Very funky and experiencing quite a comeback. Lots of stores, galleries and restaurants with one of the most vibrant, busy downtown areas I have seen for a town like this in a long time. Somebody there has their act together!

Condo shopping in Gainesville
Well, the deed is done! I just signed contract offer for a 4br2.5bath 1550 sq foot condo in Forest of the Unicorn. Very cool name! Very nice place in a quiet, professional community. It has a clubhouse, pool and 3 tennis courts and is an end unit! Jennifer will enjoy living there and we will enjoy visiting.
Gainesville real estate is out of control. Prices have soared 20-30% in the last 12 months. Fortunately, I feel we got a fair deal and will not experience a loss on this unit. It is right next to the managers unit, and the wife loves Jennifer. (Of course, who doesn't!) She will be looked after there, so my mind is at ease with that.
I love being down here in Florida, but there is a lot of traffic. Temps have been in the 80's consistently and I feel as if I drove straight into summer. I can handle the 80 degree temps, but yesterday it hit 90 and that was when I started to sweat........ But I am loving my time here and the living arrangements I have with another vet student have worked out great. She has 3 cats and 2 dogs and I am never wanting of company when I am in the house by myself. I can see why people love having pets, although they are a fair amount of work and hair gets everywhere! I will try to get some pics of the managerie and post on Snapfish, also, of the condo. Hope everyone is enjoying my blog!

Notes for today!
The last few weeks have brought disturbing and sad events my way. But, despite it all, I continue to wake each morning and greet the day with optimism and enthusiasm and a renewed commitment to somehow contribute to making this a kinder and gentler universe. More than ever I cling tightly to those people I hold near and dear to my heart and who I share common visions and values with. The people I love and cherish are my life blood, and I thank all of them for that. Without them, and without each other's love and appreciation, life would not be so precious. I am reminded of that song from days gone by in the musical "Hair" - Let the sunshine in! I think, at the risk of sounding like a Martha"ite" - that's a good thing!
